Beverly Susan Friedman (née Kruger) passed away on July 14, 2026, at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, United Kingdom, after a short illness.

Born in Detroit in 1944, Beverly was a remarkably creative child with a lifelong passion for art. She attended the prestigious graphic arts program at Cass Technical High School, won a Scholastic Magazine watercolor award, and went on to earn a full-tuition scholarship to the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). Her professional journey began as a book designer for the Yale University Press.

In 1967, Beverly married Carl Friedman, whom she met through the first computer dating service in the United States. The couple moved to Washington, D.C., where Beverly worked as a graphic designer for the Library of Congress. A few years later, she began teaching at Northern Virginia Community College, discovering a true calling in education that she would return to throughout her lifetime.

After welcoming her daughter, Kayla, in 1974, Beverly later divorced in 1983 and moved to New York City to pursue graduate studies. She settled in Park Slope, Brooklyn, and absolutely fell in love with New York life. Over her career, she took on various graphic design roles and eventually transitioned to successful freelance work. Alongside her professional work, she returned to teaching and found great joy serving as a docent at the Brooklyn Museum, which she continued into retirement.

Beverly was an avid traveller who delighted in exploring Europe. Following the birth of her granddaughter, Miranda, in 2017, she began splitting her time between New York and the United Kingdom. These years spent close to her family were incredibly precious to her, filled with annual travels together until she fell ill in 2025. For the final year of her life, Beverly was lovingly cared for by Kayla in Cambridge, where she was profoundly grateful to be surrounded by family and new friends.

Beverly is survived by her daughter, Kayla, and her granddaughter, Miranda. She was preceded in death by her sister, Jane, and her parents, Anna and Morris.
