As one of the original Rosie the Riveters who built parts for planes that her husband-to-be flew as a decorated pilot in WWII, Betty then spent her life dedicated to educating herself and others. She earned her Bachelor’s in Education and her Master’s in Library Science, both from Wayne State University, then taught elementary in the Oak Park school system for 35 years. She was a lover of books, art, custom-made blown glass, and continuing education, and she spent winters on Maui.
Betty was the beloved wife of the late Meyer “Mike” Shear. Dear mother of Diana (Richard) Tolin and Brian (Linda) Shear. Loving grandmother of Maximillian (Alyssa) Shear, Peter (Katherine) Shear, Sophia Orbach and Rachel Orbach. Adoring great-grandmother of Clara and Lincoln. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
