Family Members:
Sabra Shekter(1931 – 2025) died peacefully at home at the Fox Run Senior Community on November 1st.

She was the beloved wife of Sanford C. Shekter, DDS (1950-1971) and Bob Haber (1991 – 1998).

She graduated from Central High School in Detroit in 1949. And graduated from Wayne State University in 1953 as a kindergarten teacher. A job that she loved while Sanford was stationed with the army at Fort Benning, Georgia.

Sabra loved her life with horses and horseback riding; a passion she shared with her cousin Ruth Ann Prag Carter. Sabra proudly kept her two cross Michigan trail ride trophies she received for completing 2 Lake Michigan to Lake Huron trail rides in June 1980, and then again in September 1980.

Sabra and her cousin, Joel Faust started (Time and Things), a retail jewelry and gift boutique in the Sheraton Southfield hotel. She also worked for many years as an office assistant for Jerry Morof, DDS, a classmate of Sanford’s at the University of Detroit dental school. In addition, she worked as an office assistant for a financial planning and insurance agency for many years.

Sabra’s own experience losing two husbands gave her a special insight as a grief support leader; a driver for meals on wheels; and as a kiddush helper following shabbat services at Congregation Shaarey Zedek.

She is survived by her children Cliff and Jean Shekter, Eric and Deborah Shekter and Liane Smith; her nieces and nephews Michael Jacobs (Paula), Leslie Jacobs (Shannon), Shelly Jacobs, Kevin Jacobs (Cari), and Laura Warner (Paul); her sister Rita Neff; her “adopted” daughters Jan Corwin and Linda Hilson (Allan); her cousins Ruth Ann Prag Carter and Elliott Prag; her grandchildren Sebastian Smith and Jamison Shekter (Christina); Robert Swanson (Maryse), Melissa Powell (Rick), Jasen Hilson, Amanda Whiston (Scott) and Scott Haber; and great grandchildren Arlo, Lilly, Addison, James, Maisie, Clara, Trip, Presley, Collins, Reaves, and Ace; and her Fox Run family of friends.

She was preceded in death by her husbands Sanford Shekter and Bob Haber, her parents (Dorothy and Johnny Prag), her sister Fern Jacobs, her brother Lowell Prag, her cousins Joel and Lisa Faust, and Ruth and Paul Faust (her aunt and uncle).
